L'Arche Frederick believes that every person with an intellectual disability is valued, possesses unique gifts to contribute to society, and deserves a place of belonging. People with intellectual disabilities enrich the community around them when they are seen as peers and leaders deserving of respect and trust. When we see the gifts and inherent value of people with disabilities – and partner with them so those gifts are revealed, we are building a more just, compassionate world. In L'Arche, adults with IDD share life in community homes with social and medical needs supported by a team of assistants, some of whom also live in the homes. L'Arche is a faith-based organization that welcomes people from many different faith and spiritual backgrounds or no faith backgrounds, and everyone is respected in their beliefs. LFM promotes a culture of hospitality, shared responsibility, and active participation in the life of the home and the surrounding Frederick community.
